Zoot named CEO of OCEAA Charter School
Zoot Velasco has accepted the position of CEO of the Orange County Educational Arts Academy (OCEAA), a dual-language immersion/ arts & technology charter school in Santa Ana, CA. OCEAA's mission is "to nurture all learners to become creative, critical thinkers by providing high quality standards-based instruction through the arts, technology, language and culture." OCEAA was founded in 2005 by a group of dedicated educators, parents and community partners who wanted to provide a well-rounded education to the students of Orange County. As a public charter school serving approximately 580 students grades TK-8, OCEAA's approximately $7 Million is funded directly from the state based on student attendance, and is subject to the same accountability measures as other public schools. Zoot will be looking to expand the budget and bring his award-winning STEAM programs to the school.
Zoot will maintain his position as Interim Director of the Gianneschi Center for Nonprofit Research at California State University Fullerton's Mihaylo College of Business & Economics and produce their August G3X conference; continue teaching Marketing and Business courses at Mihaylo; teach Nonprofit Management and Leadership at California Polytechnic Institute Pomona; teach webinars with CharityHowTo; host his podcast; and teach a pilot arts reentry program to inmates at the Riverside County Jail on weekends. He will finish his contract with the San Bernardino Arts Connection helping them to create a strategic plan. Needless to say Zoot will be busy for a while!
